Love the gloves. Feel like they were custom made for me. Most comfortable gloves I own.
I've tried brands like Cleto Reyes, Superare, Venum and Adidas. MK1 is by far the worst quality I've ever incountered. I got them in red and the dye got on absolutely everything, the velcro went out after not even 6 months of use, the leather cracked at around the same time despite regular cleaning and moisturizing. They are completely useless after about a year of use since there are holes at the tip of the fingers because the dye rubbed off and left this weird squishy dark red material
Thank you for taking the time to leave detailed feedback. We’re genuinely sorry to hear about your experience.
For transparency, this review and the attached photos were submitted approximately 11 months after purchase. At that point, the gloves show significant wear consistent with heavy, long-term use. While leather boxing gloves are consumable training equipment and will naturally break down over time, we agree that this pair shows more wear than we’d ideally expect.
There are also a few variables we unfortunately can’t assess after the fact—such as maintenance routine, frequency of use, sweat saturation, drying habits, or exposure to very hot or humid training environments, all of which can dramatically accelerate leather degradation and dye transfer in any genuine leather glove.
Regarding the Velcro, it’s important to note that Velcro closures are a wear component by nature. Over time, lint buildup, repeated friction, sweat, and frequent opening/closing will reduce holding strength across all brands. This is expected behavior with consistent training use and is not considered a manufacturing defect.
MK1 offers a 6-month manufacturing warranty, which is intentionally designed to identify material or construction defects early in the product’s life cycle—well before normal wear becomes a factor. Issues reported outside that window are typically related to usage and environmental conditions rather than faulty construction.
That said, we do want to be fair. If you’re open to it, please reach out to us directly. While this falls outside our warranty period, we’re happy to review everything and will likely offer store credit as a goodwill gesture, which can be used toward future equipment.
We stand behind our craftsmanship and also believe in being transparent about the realities of training equipment. We appreciate you giving MK1 a try and wish you the best in your training moving forward.
After about two weeks (maybe less), the finger compartment started to rip. I contacted customer support, and they told me it should be covered under warranty. Since then, I haven’t heard anything back, and none of my follow-up messages have been answered. It’s been about two weeks with no response so far — really disappointing customer service.
Hi James,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment you have experienced with our product. We have made contact with you and offered a complimentary exchange. So far we are still awaiting the return item for exchange, but there's no world where we'd leave you hanging without support.
Sincerely,
Select Hook & Loop Boxing Gloves
From bags to bodies, after a break in period, I love these gloves. Solid feedback for a 16oz glove, and those 16oz are spread incredibly well through the glove. Compared to Rival bag gloves, which I only now realize felt like swinging with blocks at the ends of my arms, these beauties hide their weight well.
They hit hard enough for long bag work sessions, and are perfect for sparring. The shape of these gloves allows me to find holes I couldn’t fit in before… pause..
Resume. Fire overall. Worth it. Try them yourself.
